About this tool

The BMI Calculator computes your Body Mass Index from your height and weight, then maps the result onto the World Health Organization categories: underweight, normal, overweight, and obese. It supports both metric and imperial units and shows the weight range considered healthy for your height.

How to use

  1. Select metric (cm, kg) or imperial (ft/in, lbs) units.
  2. Enter your current height and weight.
  3. Read your BMI value and the WHO category it falls into.
  4. Check the healthy weight range shown for your height.
  5. Save the result to your history so you can track changes over time.

Common use cases

  • Getting a quick snapshot of whether your weight sits in the healthy range for your height.
  • Tracking BMI over a diet or training program.
  • Comparing BMI before and after a weight milestone.
  • Explaining healthy weight ranges to a family member.
  • Pre-filling information for a health checkup form.

Frequently asked questions

Is BMI accurate for athletes?

Not always. BMI does not separate muscle from fat, so very muscular people can score as overweight while still being lean.

Which BMI range is considered healthy?

The WHO considers 18.5 to 24.9 healthy for adults. Below 18.5 is underweight, 25 to 29.9 overweight, 30 and above obese.

Should I use BMI for children?

Children and teens should use age-and-sex-specific BMI percentiles instead of adult cutoffs. This tool targets adults.
